That reminds me of the facelifted R Class I saw yesterday. It was also a black one, though I’ve always thought these looked best in red, regardless of being facelifted or not.

I’ve noticed these days more students are driving newer cars. I guess parents want more safety. Can’t really blame them.

But damnit beaters are so much more fun. Try cramming 7 kids into a new camry. It’s doable. Now try craming those 7 kids into a 1999 New Beetle TDI.

The old ZJ jeep I drive today was the savior of many inexperienced high school drivers in the snow! It handled pulling friends out of snow banks with plenty of tail gate rust to spare. It even continued its gracious work by pulling cars out of Minneapolis’ infamous snow plow drifts around campus.

Back when I was in high school cough:21yearsago:cough there weren’t too many nice new cars driven by students. There were a decent amount of 3rd gen Camaros and Firebirds, and a few muscle cars. But most people just had beaters.

The car I was most jealous of was owned by a lunch lady of all things. A purple Porsche 968.

The story goes her husband was rich. I was in love with this car.

Dear God. The oldest thing in that lot looks like the Explorer in the back. At my high school (8 years ago), most people had cars that were 10 or 15 years old (mine was 20), with the occasional person who got their parents 7 or 8 year old vehicle. Nothing in that picture looks older than maybe 6 years. This high school in an affluent area I assume?
